Oakland, California

We love our city! Here are a few stats:
- 44th largest city in the US
- Best weather in the US (as named by Rand McNally)
- The most ethnically diverse city in the US (along with Long Beach, CA)--with over 150 languages spoken.
- Our favorite places in Oakland include Lake Merritt, Telegraph Ave., Golden Gate Donuts (where you can get an apple fritter "the size of a plate" for a buck), and the Grand Lake Theatre.
- Divided into 50 distinct neighborhoods--we live in the Temescal District, which borders Berkeley, CA.

Oakland recently got some love from the NYTimes here...

Gaylord's Coffee

So far...the best independant coffee place we have found in our area.  "Gaylord's Caffe Espresso has been brewing up coffee drinks and ice cream since 1976, way before espresso became cool. Today the place is the anti-corporate america coffee shop that cares about its coffee drinks. The place has tons of personality from its alternative-looking yet happy employees to the artworks by local artists hung on the walls (and for sale) to the Pac-man table game.
Insider Tip: Order your iced drinks with Gaylord's Coffee Cubes. They are essentially ice cubes made out of coffee so that as your iced drink starts to melt, it gets diluted with coffee instead of water. Take that, Starbucks!"
